We have the keys and some spare money so let the refurbishments begin!
The shop itself was in remarkably good condition, and only needed freshening up. But as it’s a listed building you can’t put just any old paint on the walls. You have to use something that allows them to breathe. So after scouring most of the paint supplies shops and being met with blank looks we finally found a product made up of powdered chalk that you add a powdered colour to.
But first things first. Out came the scrapers and the walls got the scraping of their lives. This was swiftly followed by filling holes and cracks in readiness for the chalky stuff.
Pretty soon the main shop area was done ready for the shop fittings. Before we can proceed any further, we will have to agree on which fittings to use, this may take a few committee meetings between the various ‘delisa’ department heads! More about that to follow…….
Now the boutique area was looking as clean as a whistle, we just need to completely fit the ‘atelier’ aka workroom, plaster, paint and fit flooring to the back room – which we have affectionately renamed the ‘staff room’ – all 5 m2 of it! Paint the toilet, lay some flooring, and install Steve’s couch in the staff room – which he insists is ‘top priority’!
